Water Rail

We are currently starting a long term colour ringing project into Water Rail. The birds will have two colour rings on the left leg as well as a normal BTO ring on the right leg. This code will individually identify that particular bird.

We would appreciate if observers could report all sightings of birds with colour rings to allow a clearer picture to be gained on this secretive species.

Regular updates will appear in Lapwing once the project is in full swing. It is hoped from this we can start to ascertain numbers present , passage/turnover through sites and winter site fidelity.

thanks
