On an excellent morning for birding, a female Lesser Spotted Woodpecker was watched as it fed amongst the trees on the canal side of the wood. The bird was much closer to the Dowley Gap end, but kept to trees adjacent to the canal. It made frequent contact calls as it flew from tree to tree. Fred Drake saw and photographed a male bird on Tuesday in the same area (see the Members' Blog).
