Saturday 18th September

Glovershaw, Baildon Moor
On a cool morning, two Wheatears were feeding along Birch Close Lane and a Kestrel was being constantly harassed by a flock of tenacious Jackdaws. A flock of nine Grey Partridge scuttled amongst the longer grasses and Meadow Pipits seemed eager to be away, whilst a few Swallows skimmed low over the meadows.

Glovershaw, Baildon.
A much better day for watching migrants after a week of high pressure. A Wheatear was in the 'horse-field' along the Glen Road and another was feeding along the 12th fairway. A Whinchat appeared on a nearby wall and a Whitethroat flew into bushes by the running track. Two Kestrels were again in the area, one was sitting on a boundary wall until it was unceremoniously moved off and chased across the Golf Course by about 30 Jackdaws. A flock of Grey Partridge consisting of two adults and nine juveniles flew up from the meadow by Golcar Farm.

A rewarding walk this morning in very still, steamy conditions. There were two family groups of Grey Partridge, with 13 at Farweather Farm and two adults with nine young birds near Weecher Reservoir. A female Wheatear was on the reservoir wall and nearby, a flock of 30 or so Meadow Pipits were feeding. At an area of vegetation at Birch Close a juvenile Garden Warbler was noted together with numerous young Willow Warblers. A flock of 15 Pheasants were feeding here and at nearby Sconce Lane a post-breeding flock of 21 Greenfinch had found a good food source. A family of three Kestrels were hunting across the moorland fringes and five Stock Dove, including one using a nestbox at Golcar Farm, were seen. An adult Little Owl was guarding a juvenile, on an old building adjacent to the golf course and later, behind Glovershaw Farm, another adult flew into a tree.
