More Waxwings - seen this afternoon at 13.50 - 40 birds feeding on mountain ash berries in Evergreen Walk. This is a walk through in an area of flats near to Crossflatts Railway Station but on the other side of the by-pass.

Stockbridge Reserve (members only) - 39 species recorded including - Water Rail showing well, Kingfisher, Chiff-Chaff catching flies, Bullfinches, Siskin, GSW, plus 350 Fieldfare in small flocks flying west. Also BHG picking insects from the top of willo trees on the banks of the river. This strange feeding method was also noted on Halifax Birders site on Friday 22nd Oct.

3 Greylag Geese, 4 Cormorants, 5 Red Kites, 7+ Buzzards, 1 Sparrowhawk, 3 Kestrels, 1 Peregrine, 50+ Waxwings (1 flock of 9 birds at 10.20am, 2nd flock of 40+ birds at 11.15am flying through and calling, quite good views but unfortunately they didn't stop!), 180+ Fieldfares (flocks flying through all morning), Goldcrest, 2 Ravens, 9 Siskins.

Redcar Tarn - reported 17.30 - White-fronted Goose, observer believes the bird to be the rarer, Lesser because of ring around eyes.

Redcar Update
Unless video footage proves otherwise the "White-front" could well be a hybrid Canada showing 90% parentage of a Canada as there wasn't a "White-front present at 18.30. The hybrid has a thin white line at base of bill and is basically a "small grey" Canada.

Reported to me tonight by a visitor to the region, a Waxwing was seen at Hebden near Grassington, so time to check those berries! Diverted the phone call to Craven RSPB Group.

Glovershaw and Baildon Moor
During a warm, sunny afternoon a late Wheatear was seen, 14 Grey Partridge flushed near Golcar Farm, two Skylarks, about 25 Meadow Pipits, three Reed Buntings and a hunting Kestrel were around the moorland fringes.
