On a mild, still day, there were four drumming Great Spotted Woodpeckers at a variety of locations and a Dipper around the nest site on the beck. Close by, 25 Redwing fed in the ploughed field, 15 Goldfinch found food in the hedgerows along with a pair of Bullfinch. A Song Thrush was in full voice, Jays, Great Tits, Mistle Thrush and Nuthatch were prominent.

Dowley Gap, River Aire area -birds seen this morning, 2 Chiff-Chaff, one actually singing it's summer song, 70 Redwings in two fields. Male/Female Goosanders and Grey Heron on river side, no sightings of Kingfisher. Malc & Fran Stones

Stockbridge Reserve (members only) -34 species in total, including a Dunlin - dropped in for a few minutes trying to feed on the ice between the willow and the triangle, it stayed for about 5 minutes before departing as discreetly as it had arrived. Redwing - 6, Fieldfare - 4, GSW, Lapwing - 100, there was a noticeable movement of birds up the Aire valley from east to west, 6 groups of birds consisting of 4, 28, 18, 8, 21 and 30 individuals respectively. Kestrel - 2, male and female perching on wires, poles and pylon. Though seen on the perches they were never seen close to the nest boxes. The female spent quite a bit of time hunting above the wood piles and frozen reeds towards the western end of the reserve. Sparrowhawk - two good views crossing the reserve one time being mobbed by a dozen or so Goldfinch. Another group of 20 Goldfinch seen .Jay - 2. Also seen were Cormorant, Goosander, Siskin, Bullfinch, Common Gull plus the usual tits, finches, corvids and woodpigeons. On a bright afternoon, ideal for birding, there were at least 160 Golden Plovers in the area, with a flock of 85+ near Birch Close Lane and a similar flock in the 'horse-field' along the Glen Road. A Little Owl was sitting in the sun near Glovershaw Farm, two Kestrels were hunting over the moorland fringes and about 40 Lapwing were dispersed around their breeding areas.
Glovershaw this afternoon - flock of 105 Golden Plover. Flew off towards Reva Hill. Birch Close Lane - male Stonechat close to gorse at horse track. Sconce Lane area - Little Owl below Weecher Res.
Shaun Radcliffe Rombalds Moor - Rough-legged Buzzard now confirmed after being seen a couple of days previously, better views have been obtained to confirm its identity. Also present; 2 SEO, 4 Common Buzzard, Red Kite, 2 Stonechat.
