2 Wheatear on the burnt area just beyond the gate at Whetstone (1 male, 1 female)
Pair Stonechat west of gate, 2 Golden Plover (also west of gate)
Red Grouse numbers seemed low with a very slow drive to the gate and a short walk to Buck Stones only producing 4 birds. 2nd pair of Stonechat below quarry.
1 Wheatear (male) at Bradup by old derelict barn; also 5 Skylark and 1 Reed Bunting feeding in very muddy sheep field next to barn. Snipe chipping and several Curlews and Lapwings displaying. There were several Mipits and Skylarks on territory and several small parties (of up to c20 birds) flying in a general north west direction from Whetstone Allotment; smaller numbers of Skylark and Pied Wagtail also north west.

Glovershaw area
55 Golden Ploverswere flying over the fields beyond Golcar Farm and Snipe were displaying and calling. About 40 Lapwings are in the fields either side of Glovershaw Lane, they are now well spread out in their breeding positions. Four Curlews were feeding here and a Reed Bunting, four Skylarks and lots of displaying Meadow Pipits were on the moorland fringes. A Ketrel was hunting over the Glen Road, a male Stonechat was on the wall and a pair were seen by the race track

Glovershaw and Shipley Glen.
About 30 Lapwings were on the ground in the Glovershaw area where they have established their breeding territory. Snipe could be heard from the boggy areas along the moorside and five Curlews were seen flying overhead and feeding in the fields. Skylarks were also heard and up to six were feeding where the fields had been manured. A few Meadow Pipits and Linnets were noticed and a pair of Stonechats were seen, all these birds moving northwards. A pair of Grey Wagtails were using the quarry at the top of the Glen. They bred in this area last year. The rookery at Eldwick is in full swing with nine nests now established and a Green Woodpeckerwas heard in the vicinity of Crook Farm.

9 Curlew were in Bodkin Fields, a Redshank here also. Greylag and Canada Geese on Leeshaw, albeit very rough water!! Lapwings well spread on breeding territory and a little group of five Golden Plover in these fields also. A Mistle Thrush at Harbour Lodge and a Stonechat near the Spa
