Great Grey Shrike on wires beside old A59 this afternoon. Viewed from first stretch of old A59 on Harrogate side of refreshment caravan at 1500. Also a Raven on hilltop above Buffers at Storiths.

Glovershaw, Baildon
A male Yellowhammer was calling from a tree at the top of the Glen Road, it then flew towards the caravan park at Dobrudden Farm. The Golden Plover flock had increased dramatically to 195 and three Snipes were performing their aerial display whilst others called from the breeding area. About 12 pairs of Skylark were actively performing their routines and a pair of Reed Bunting were in residence.

Glovershaw, Baildon.
44 Golden Plovers are in the field by the cattle grid, adjacent to Glovershaw Lane. 6 Wheatears (5 males and a female) were feeding in the nearby fields and there had been a significant increase in Meadow Pipits since last week. A Reed Bunting pair had also returned to their breeding area where Lapwings, Snipe, Grey Partridge, Curlew and Skylark are well established.

Canal at Riddlesden - Chiff-Chaff calling whilst I watched a single Waxwing.
Stockbridge Reserve (members only) - female Brambling, 4 Reed Bunting, pair of Bullfinch. Kestrels appear to have lost the battle over the nest box. Jackdaws keep returning to stuff it full of twigs despite being removed twice.

Glovershaw and Baildon Moor
A glorious day to be out on the moor and note the progress of breeding birds. About 15 pairs of Lapwings are now well established in the fields around Golcar Farm, a pair of Grey Partridge have settled-in, Snipe are displaying and Curlew can be frequently heard and seen flying by. At least six pairs of Skylark are nesting alongside the Golf Course, Meadow Pipits are performing their display flight, but there was no sign of Golden Plover.

Lindley Wood area -Tawny Owl, Chiffchaff. Gt Crested Grebe, 13 Oystercatches plus the usual Blue, Great and Coal Tits, however we did find two pair of Long Tailed Tits making nests one at the beginng and the other at the end of the wood before pack horse bridge, this is where we found the Chiffchaff after hearing it call, it took a bit of finding as it was quite active

Very much alive with activity with two pairs of GSW chasing and disputing territory, Nuthatch calling from various points and pairs of birds at almost every turn, including Treecreeper, three pairs of Jay, Mistle Thrush and a pair of copulating Moorhen. A Lesser Spotted Woodpecker was seen earlier in the week at the copice between the Coach Road and the Glen.

A Waxwing at bottom of Warren Lane Eldwick around 9.30am. Then as I passed the Ramada Bankfield Hotel, Nab Wood there was a flock of around about 20 Waxwings in a tree near the roundabout by the hotel.

Glovershaw, Baildon
A flock of 19 Golden Plovers had gathered in the field adjacent to Glovershaw Lane where they congregated last year. This is the first group to appear and we can expect the numbers to increase over the next six weeks. About 12 pairs of Lapwing were in-situ and a Snipe flashed across where they usually breed. A flock of 30 or so Fieldfare were in the area together with a pair of Stock Dove and 28 Greylags were feeding nearby.

St Ives, Bingley - 15;15hrs Hawfinch showed in trees left of nursing home gate then flew to tree in play area for 15mins, disappeared for 10mins then showed again for 10mins above play area. Alan Tremethick and Tony Gough
Great Grey Shrike, 3 Common Buzzards, 3 Curlew. A59 old Blubberhouse Road, first turn off passed the lay-by cafe going uphill from Bolton Abbey. While observing the Shrike the Buzzards and Curlews flew over.

Great Grey Shrike - Storith bird probably re-located - bird seen at 17.00 next to main A59 road. Continue up the A59 from Bolton Abbey roundabout towards Blubberhouses, go past the Storiths turn and turn on to old road section at Pace Gate (SE114548). The bird was seen flying about the trees on both sides of the main road.
