2nd June 2007

Ilkley along to Ben Rhydding, over Denton Bridge, up Carters Lane to Middleton, along Hunger Hill, across Middleton Moor and Langbar Moor to Old Pike, Beamsley Beacon and then back via Wards Cottage across the moor and down into Ilkley along the river.

Highlights were:
4 Grey Heron and a Kestrel seen in fields next to Carters Lane.
2 Golden Plover heard but not seen on the way up to Old Pike and another heard as walked along to Beamsley Beacon
3 Grey Heron flew over near Beamsley, Kestrel at Beamsley Beacon
Lots of curlew, lapwing – some with chicks, meadow pipits, skylarks, swallows, martins, swifts - around the moors. Large numbers of starlings about – at one point there must have been a flock in excess of 1000. Did not see a single grouse all day.
Kingfisher and Little Grebe on river.
