Glovershaw and Baildon Moor
A heavy overcast morning but the birding was again very good.  Seven Wheatears were feeding on the Golf Course, making 22 on my three visits in the past six days.  Whinchats were also continuing to pass through with another three near Birch Close Lane where a juvenile male Stonechat popped-up amongst a surge of flighty Meadow Pipits.  Three Grey Partridges rose from the meadow as I walked across.

Another very bright and warm morning and some interesting birds.  A flock of chats, on the bracken, along the Glen Road, provide the best moments.  They turned out to be a couple of Stonechats and a post-breeding group of five Whinchats.  A Whitethroat was on the horse-field hedge, three Stock Doves flew by Golcar Farm and a solitary Wheatear scuttled across the Golf Course.

Shipley Glen
A very quiet morning on the moor so attention switched to the hedgerow at the bottom of the 'horse-field' along the Glen Road. Here there was a hive of activity.  A big flock of Greenfinch attracted my attention, but there were many other species, including a Spotted Flycatcher, a Whitethroat, a female Blackcap, a few fresh-looking Willow Warblers and a pair of Bullfinch.  The adjacent bracken seemed alive with families of Reed Buntings.  A downy looking Stonechat hopped along the wall and two more adult looking birds were seen near Glovershaw Lane.

Glovershaw and Shipley Glen
The interesting weekend continued with another good passage of migrants and post-breeding flocks of passerines.  In a hedgerow alongside the 'horse-field' a group of 20 or more Willow Warblers passed along before diving for cover into ferns. A Whitethroat attended to a couple of juveniles and a female Redstart flicked its tail and fled amongst the cover. Further along at Golcar, three Wheatear and two Whinchats were feeding and the moorland fringes were alive with gathering Meadow Pipits. At Brackenhall, Tawny Owls, disturbed by Crows, could be heard making contact whilst a Green Woodpecker flew over the Glen.

Glovershaw area
It was very wet underfoot, with all the fields ankle deep in water, nevertheless, there was a good passage of birds this morning.  In the 'horse-field' on the Glen Road, a couple of Whinchats were feeding with two Wheatears and further along in the newly cut meadow a similar group but with an additional Whinchat.  A Buzzard watched for voles from a fence post at Weecher and three Stock Doves fed in the open fields.  Along the hedgerow, up from Glovershaw Farm, five Spotted Flycatchers, a Blackcap, three Willow Warblers and an adult Stonechat with juvenile completed a satisfactory tour.
