2 Wheatear on the burnt area just beyond the gate at Whetstone (1 male, 1 female)

Red Grouse numbers seemed low with a very slow drive to the gate and a short walk to Buck Stones only producing 4 birds. 2nd pair of Stonechat below quarry.
1 Wheatear (male) at Bradup by old derelict barn; also 5 Skylark and 1 Reed Bunting feeding in very muddy sheep field next to barn. Snipe chipping and several Curlews and Lapwings displaying. There were several Mipits and Skylarks on territory and several small parties (of up to c20 birds) flying in a general north west direction from Whetstone Allotment; smaller numbers of Skylark and Pied Wagtail also north west.

Glovershaw area
55 Golden Ploverswere flying over the fields beyond Golcar Farm and Snipe were displaying and calling. About 40 Lapwings are in the fields either side of Glovershaw Lane, they are now well spread out in their breeding positions. Four Curlews were feeding here and a Reed Bunting, four Skylarks and lots of displaying Meadow Pipits were on the moorland fringes. A Ketrel was hunting over the Glen Road, a male Stonechat was on the wall and a pair were seen by the race track

Skylarks were also heard and up to six were feeding where the fields had been manured. A few Meadow Pipits and Linnets were noticed and a pair of Stonechats were seen, all these birds moving northwards. A pair of Grey Wagtails were using the quarry at the top of the Glen. They bred in this area last year. The rookery at Eldwick is in full swing with nine nests now established and a Green Woodpeckerwas heard in the vicinity of Crook Farm.

Again very few birds seen. Wrens were singing from the bracken in the shelter of the Backstone Beck valley. Siskins were heard overflying, Coal Tits and several Chaffinches were in the plantation above the Cow and Calf Rocks and at least six Red Grouse were flushed from near the footpath at the edge of Burley Moor. Another Wren was in the Hangingstone Quarry basin.

They were with a small number of Redwings. 6 Reed Buntings at Dowley Gap Sewage Works and along the river a pair of Goosander and two Stock Doves by the Rowing Club.

Red Kite went over the main path, and a pair of Kestrels were
hunting over the mooredge. A flock of 16 Crossbills were seen
just beyond the pools. At Swinsty a flock of 100 Fieldfare was

Red Kite went over the main path, and a pair of Kestrels were
hunting over the mooredge. A flock of 16 Crossbills were seen
just beyond the pools. At Swinsty a flock of 100 Fieldfare was
moving through. As we approached John o' Gaunts Reservoir
a pair of Stonechats were seen. On the water there wasn't much,

Ilkley, River Wharfe and Middleton Lodge onto the moors to Round Hill and back.
Woodpecker (heard) and 2 Buzzards took flight from woods behind Middleton Lodge about 10:30am. 3 skeins of geese (possibly pink footed – but not certain) flew over Ilkley from East to West – about 100 at 10:50am, 60+ at 11:05am and then a further 25+ shortly after.
On the moors a huge flock of birds took to the skies made up of lapwing, golden plover, starlings and gulls – eventually separated out to about 100+ golden plover and 100+ lapwing

A pair of GSW were very active with the male drumming and a pair of MistleThrush were engaged in settling into the area. Moorhens had returned to the 'pond' in the Glen and 2 Little Grebe was a again present by the footbridge over the river at Hirstwood. Thirteen Grey Herons were at roost, five on the 'muck heap' and eight further along the beck at Milner fields. At 12.15pm a flock over about 100 Pink-footed Geese flew along the valley, from east to west

Little Egret @ Cleckheaton
A Little Egret has been seen in Cleckheaton since Christmas Eve. It is a daily sighting along a stream that runs down fields at the back of Mazebrook Avenue. There is a public footpath that runs down the edge of the same fields.
